The 10 Best Tree Services in San Francisco (2026)
San Francisco’s streets and hills demand careful tree care, from street‑side pruning to large removals in tight urban lots. This ranking is built from current Google ratings and review counts, using a Bayesian score that weights average rating by number of reviews to favor both quality and reliability. The list was updated in 2026 to reflect recent customer feedback across the city and nearby areas. Think of this as a data-driven starting point when you’re comparing local arborists and tree services, alongside permits, neighborhood rules, and on-site estimates when you contact providers directly.
This ranking is computed from Google reviews (our method). Listings marked Partner are paid advertising spots: they sit alongside the ranking without changing its order.

Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a tree service in San Francisco?
Start by checking recent customer reviews and the business’s average rating to gauge consistency. Confirm licensing, insurance, and any required city permits, and ask for a written estimate that outlines scope, timeline, and cleanup.
What factors affect the cost of tree work?
Cost depends on the tree’s size, health, location (tight urban sites are more complex), and the type of work required, such as pruning, removal, or emergency service. Obtain multiple estimates and compare clear scopes of work rather than choosing solely by price.
What should I check before hiring a tree service on the day of work?
Verify the crew carries liability insurance and worker coverage, confirm the written estimate and the planned work, and ask how they will protect property and handle cleanup. If the tree is near utilities or public property, ensure the crew coordinates necessary permits or utility notifications.
How was this ranking of tree services created?
The list is based on Google ratings and review counts, updated in 2026, and uses a Bayesian approach that weights average ratings by the number of reviews. That method favors businesses with both strong ratings and substantial customer feedback.
