The 10 Best Security Companies in San Francisco (2026)
San Francisco relies on a mix of private security firms to protect businesses, events, and dense urban properties across the city. This list is built from Google review data and updated for 2026; rankings use a weighted score that balances average rating with number of reviews so small, perfect scores don’t automatically outrank consistently reviewed firms. Our aim is to surface local security guard services that residents and managers frequently rate highly, giving a practical snapshot of who’s earning positive feedback in the Bay Area’s varied commercial and civic environments.
This ranking is computed from Google reviews (our method). Listings marked Partner are paid advertising spots: they sit alongside the ranking without changing its order.

Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a security company for my San Francisco business?
Start by defining the services you need—on-site guards, mobile patrols, or event security—then compare firms by verifiable credentials like licensing and insurance. Check recent reviews, ask for references from similar local clients, and request a clear scope of work and contract terms before deciding.
What should I check on a contract before hiring a security firm?
Look for details on duties, hours, staffing levels, training requirements, insurance coverage, termination clauses, and liability limits. Make sure response times and escalation procedures are spelled out, and get all agreed rates and services in writing.
How much does hiring a private security guard typically cost?
Costs vary widely depending on duties, location, required certifications, and hours (overnight or weekend shifts often cost more). Request detailed quotes from multiple providers and compare not just hourly rates but what services and staffing levels those rates include.
How was this ranking of security companies created?
